I run because I am a triathlete and have been for well over half of my life - I was 11 when a started running. This was purely to trim down a bit before I went to college. From those early runs my sport addiction started and I soon gave up competing in team events and starting racing individually. I started racing professionally after I graduated from Auckland University and have done ever since. Triathlon to me is about getting the best out of myself, and HOKA allows me to do that. Training for an Ironman requires a lot of running miles, and HOKA shoes look after the feet and legs better than any shoe I have run in before.
I have now done six Ironman and have always placed in the top 10 - two of them at regional championships. My best Ironman result came in May 2018 where I managed a 3rd place at Ironman Australia.
I chose to give HOKA a try after almost everyone I train with transitioned over to them, and kept raving about how good they are. I am now a convert too and my favourite shoe is the MACH. I also coach for the Foot Traffic endurance coaching team and will be recommending my athletes to give HOKA a try.
I look forward to building up to my next Ironman event running in the HOKA, and I am targeting the following races:
Ironman 70.3 Taupo (Goal, top 3) - Big focus on the NZ season
Tauranga Half Ironman (Goal, 1st)
Ironman NZ 2019 (Goal, top 3)
Ironman Australia 2019 (Goal, 1st)
Ironman world Champs Kona 2019
I am an Auckland based Professional Half-Ironman Triathlete, and a Pilates Instructor. I came into the sport of Triathlon rather late in the game from a running background. I raced cross country, track and marathons and spent 6 years living in Gunnison Colorado firstly on an athletic scholarship at Western State University then racing marathons on the elite road racing circuit.
