JO LAWN - QUEEN OF IRONMAN NZ, COACH, MASSEUSE & MUM

I am so excited to be part of the Hoka Team. My feet and body are without any pain and I feel effortless running with my Hokas.
I retired mentally from the sport in 2014 after racing professionally for around 20 years. My body was fine but my mind was done. After many years debating 'just one more Kona, just one more Kona', finally I made the decision in January 2014 to stop.  I still love the sport of triathlon and the people involved. I am still a triathlete at heart but looking from the outside in. Then I was very blessed to get pregnant so quickly after retiring. I wasn’t sure if after so many years smashing my body I would even be able to have a baby. Then what I was pregnant in March of 2014!!!! Wowwww that is the most incredible thing ever to be pregnant and have a child!!! And what a change that was. It took me along time to adapt to being a mum, as after being so so so selfish for so long and being an athlete but now I’m not the number 1 someone else is setting the pace. Penelope is the greatest accomplishment ever. She loves sport especially running as she sees mummy and daddy in sporty clothes each and everyday and she loves to do running races anywhere, anytime!!! After having Penelope ARMANDO and I decided to look for lifestyle so we took the plunge and moved away from the big city. We found our new abode in Omaha beach just 50 mins north of Auckland. It’s great, it’s amazing, it’s a big big playground. We love it.
What to do after retirement? Well for me I needed to step away, but still I love it. For me my number one job is to be a great mum to Penelope and enjoy her while she is growing, because it seems to be flying by sooooo fast. I train some athletes in and around Omaha and Matakana and also do massage - which I just love love love!!! I am there to support ARMANDO who is so busy with his coaching business of 'Sansego'. As he spends a lot of time away coaching and training athletes all over the world.
How did I come across Hoka??  Off course I had seen Hoka everywhere for a while and in Kona 2017 they were BIG. After having Penelope my feet were sore. They were different. I felt I needed “more” in shoe. Not sure what it was, but the feeling of running on sore feet and joints was turning me off. And the feeling after running was not fun. My feet are not the greatest but still I have no bad issues. A friend said "try Hoka", so I did and now I have no pain during or after running. My feet are Happy feet and my body feels great. I do have a bunion on one foot and now I have no pain. For me this is important. Enjoying and feeling good each and everyday. I train in the Clifton and the Elevon, and for speedy days the tracer. I run I run and I run some more and my feet are FINE!!!!
So from here on in it’s the same thing. Live each day to the fullest. Enjoy my family and friends. Travel and train often and keep on having fun. Life is for living and I’m trying to do that to my Best ability. Whatever it may be. If you do what you love then you are on the right track!!  Because it’s You that is important.

I run because I am a triathlete and have been for well over half of my life. I chose to give HOKA a try after almost everyone I train with transitioned over to them, and kept raving about how good they are. I am now a convert too and my favourite shoe is the MACH. I also coach for the Foot Traffic endurance coaching team and will be recommending my athletes to give HOKA a try.

I am an Auckland based Professional Half-Ironman Triathlete, and a Pilates Instructor. I came into the sport of Triathlon rather late in the game from a running background. I raced cross country, track and marathons and spent 6 years living in Gunnison Colorado firstly on an athletic scholarship at Western State University then racing marathons on the elite road racing circuit.
