A RACE PLAN EMERGES - CAMERON BROWN

A RACE PLAN EMERGES - CAMERON BROWN

Well it's been a crazy 6 months of COVID lockdowns here and around the world. Since I last raced in March at Ironman New Zealand, there has only been one other Ironman, which was a few weeks ago in Cairns, Australia. Here in NZ we have returned to level one, which means the country is back to normal again with just our borders shut. Hopefully in a few months time we will have open borders with Australia and the Pacific, and fingers crossed for a vaccine soon.

I've been getting ready for our summer season which will start in another month and I can't wait to race again! The last few weeks I've been down in the South Island gravel bike riding and running some epic mountains and trails. It was great to not only refresh the mind and body with some different training, but also to explore some different parts of New Zealand.

I'm super excited to race again and motivated for my 34th year in the sport on Triathlon!
Below are my first few races I've planned through summer 'Down Under', and there are many more to be added when the Calendar is finalised. Then hopefully we can be travelling again around the world!
Hope to see you out there!
November 8th Tinman Triathlon, Tauranga
November 15th Peoples Triathon series, Race 1 Auckland
December 17th Suffer Half Ironman and PTO professional race, Rotorua
December 27th Mount Maunganui Sprint Triathlon, Tauranga
January 23rd Tauranga Half Ironman
March 7th New Zealand Ironman, Taupo
April 11th Breca Swim/Run Bay of Islands

10 Things I Wish I’d Known About Trail Running Before I Started

January 21, 2021

I started running on trails back in 2005. I was living on the eastern shore of Maryland and accidentally found myself running on a trail one day as a way to add some distance to my road run. I loved it from the first crunch of dirt and quickly found myself wanting to get as many of my running miles on the trails as possible. I liked how I’d sometimes get a glimpse of a turtle or a deer, how I saw a lot less man-made things, how the pine trees smelled, and how I didn’t have to worry about cars. I wrote this piece to help anyone who may just be getting into trail running, or who has always wanted to try it but wasn’t so sure it was for them.
